Symbio moves: Part 2 – Helsinki
Our new Helsinki office is a place to see Symbio colleagues, chat and relax.
Remote working and empty offices during Covid-19 era also got us at Symbio thinking about the meaning of the office today.
Our Oulu office moved already earlier from a remote location to the very heart of the city center. We decided to apply the same method in the Helsinki region. We said goodbye to Keilasatama, Espoo and moved to the city center of Helsinki. Our office is now in the fourth floor in the historic Casino Helsinki building.
Some of our employees have been working remotely for the past two years, and anyway, the vast majority of projects take place at our customers’ premises. So why did we decide to look for new premises? Why the move?
What our employees want from office?
We asked for the opinions from our employees in the Helsinki region. Where do they want to work and what are the important things for them in the office? Results were pretty clear. Our employees still greatly appreciated the possibility of remote working, but hybrid working, where sometimes you work at home and sometimes in the office got even more votes. For the location of the office, the city center of Helsinki was a clear number one due to good public transportation connections and lunch restaurants.
What about the most important question: what is the meaning of the office? The category “I want to meet my coworkers informally” gathered the most answers, working together came in second place, and having lunch together with colleagues came in third. The sense of community and casually meeting with colleagues were important factors, and we want to support these things in our new office.
Place to see your colleagues
So our new office is a place to see your colleagues. A place where, in addition to work, you can meet colleagues and chat about more than just the topic of the meeting. A place where you can ask a colleague for advice on a problem you’re working on, or tell a funny story that happened last night.
We renovated the office totally and designed a new style with the interior. The sofa area creates a cozy atmosphere and a plant wall provides feeling of nature and fresh air. The color scheme and style of the office is calm and the facilities are proven to be suitable for organizing parties too. The location on Mikonkatu at Helsinki guarantees both good accessibility by public transport and the city’s best lunch spots. What more could you ask from an office!
