Glaston was looking for an IoT solution to gather data about its glass processing machines that would give better visibility of the production processes to its customers. Their machines have been gathering data for years, but customers have become increasingly interested in accessing production data easily at any time or place. Glaston wanted to provide a cloud solution, which would help glass processors optimize and maintain their machines.
Symbio and Glaston started collaboration in 2016. Glaston had a clear vision of the service that would provide the most value for its customers. Symbio helped Glaston choose the right technology and cloud components to bring its vision to life, as well as to develop and bring the service to the market quickly.
Glaston Insight provides production data that not only shows how the machines are running, but also their utilization rates, possible faults, and maintenance history. Data gathered from the glass processing machines are stored and processed in the cloud and visualized in Web UI. The solution enables Glaston’s customers to have easy access to production data via mobile and Web UI.
The service was developed and launched in just five weeks based on a proof-of-concept that had been created a few months earlier. Azure Online was chosen as the cloud service, because it is reliable and had the right components for the solution. Data that the production machines have gathered can now be replicated within the Azure cloud. This allows customers to manage their fleets of machines simultaneously, organize maintenance, and optimize production using intelligent data. Glaston’s experts are also readily available to assist with more complex questions.
Glaston Insight is in production and available for the majority of Glaston’s glass processing machines in North America, Europe, and Asia. Customer feedback has been extremely positive. The main value for customers has been the ability to see data from the machine in real-time, regardless of place, and to manage fleets of machines remotely.
Using the cloud-based service, Glaston is also continuously learning how to develop new ways to produce more value for its customers. A high-priority is to help customers move forward along their road to digitalization.
